Oriskany’s annual holiday festival, Christmas in the Place of Nettles, has been cancelled for 2020 due to the pandemic. The planning committee met in October to discuss what aspects could be adapted to the pandemic guidelines, but by the second planning meeting, the local COVID-19 case numbers were no longer improving. In the interest of safety for our community, it was decided to cancel even modified activities.
We hope you will enjoy the village holiday light displays as you celebrate the season. Please consider donating to local food pantries or toy drives to spread holiday cheer to others if you are able. The committee looks forward to celebrating the holidays with our community again when it is safe to do so.
Christmas in the Place of Nettles is an annual holiday festival in the Village of Oriskany, New York hosted by a committee of the same name. Oriskany was originally founded as the Oneida village of Oriska, whose name was derived from the Haudenosaunee words for “place of nettles.” This year would have marked the seventeenth annual celebration.
